Ali Al Habsi – wanted by three clubs!

25May11

The Oman Internation goalkeeper, Ali Al Habsi, who returned to Bolton this week after a very successful loan spell with Wigan is proving to be a wanted man this summer.

The daily mail claim that Aston Villa are considering a move to land the 29 year old who landed the player of the season award during his stint at Wigan. Al Habsi has declared that he will not settle for being second choice in the coming season a revelation that will give his boss some thinking to do.

I would wager that most Bolton fans would be happy to see Al Habsi take the number one spot at the Reebok come August. Wanderers fans recognise the important role Jussi Jasskeleinen has played in recent years but many feel that Al Habsi is the perfect replacement with his best years still to come.

Just down the road, where Al Habsi enjoyed a full season as number one, Wigan fans and staff would surely welcome Ali back with open arms if they can get Bolton to sell. Al Habsi did seem to fall in love with Wigan during his time there and danced on the pitch after he helped to secure their Premier League survival last weekend.

If I were the Bolton boss my next move would be to bring in Al Habsi as my number one keeper with Jussi Jasskelienen as his more than capable understudy. In turn I would send out Adam Bogdan, who is seen as Jussi’s long term replacement, on loan for a season to gain some much need first team football. This would mean that Bolton can start to phase out their reliance on Jasskeleinen by handing over to a keeper with a very good Premier League reputation without running the risk of letting him go and putting all of our eggs in Adam Bogdan’s young basket. Who knows – Bogdan may turn out to be just an average keeper yet and Bolton’s recent successes have been partly down to having a very reliable man between the sticks. With just an average keeper Bolton may have been relegated in seasons past.

I agree with this post 110%!!

Without doubt Al Habsi is the best keeper at Bolton!!
It speaks for itself with the tams that are reportedly interested in him!!
Jussi is 35 now and is at that age were he could come in should our no1 be injured/suspended!!

Some foolish BWFC fans think Jussi could go on until he’s 40 like Van Der Sar, but hold on a minute there is a country mile between jussi & him!!
Jussi’s inept ability to come off his line to claim the crosses, command his box like a keeper should do has cost us dear this yr!! People say our defence was at fault & yes I agree to a certain degree but just look at the pathetic goalkeeping that has cost us!!
I thank jussi for his services because I agree he has been a fantastic servant for the club but I’m afraid his best days are up now and for the club to move on & push for European football Al Habsi is the man so do the right thing Coyle and make him our no1 keeper!!

The problem is, I think Al Hasbi became too settled at Wigan, and I don’t actually think he wants to be at Bolton, Number 1 or number 3. I think we should sell Al Hasbi, and make 3 or 4 million if the club can get it. From what I hear about Al Hasbi, he doesn’t want to be at any other club other than Wigan, and it could be a huge risk, if he now didn’t settle back with us. Jussi could also be niggled by the decision to make him number 2. I’d take the money and get shut. We are lucky to have two fantastic keepers in my opinion.
