Wanderers January Transfer News – Stephen Ireland

We are well and truly into the January squabble for players. Wanderers have already signed up, England U-21 defender, David Wheater as boss, Owen Coyle, searchers to further bolster his squad.

Bolton have been linked with a number of highly rated players over the last couple of weeks, one of which was Wheater who has signed on a three and a half year deal for about 2.5 million pounds. Other reported targets include Sean Wright Phillips who is frozen out of Mancini’s plans at Manchester City. Coyle hasn’t denied his interest in bring SWP to the club.

Recent speculation also suggests that, coot, Stephen Ireland could link up with Bolton on a loan deal for the rest of the season after Coyle was given the green light to match his £50,000 per week wages. Former City player, Ireland, now at Aston Villa had been linked with Newcastle after being told he can leave in this transfer window.

Coyle is also keen to sign former Real Madrid youngster Rodrigo who is currently on loan at the Reebok. Rodrigo continues to impress in the absence of Lee and is able to play either side of midfield as well as up front.

Bolton really seem to be lacking some cutting edge up front at the moment despite goals from Elmander and Davies flowing well a little earlier in the season. If Bolton could secure some extra fire power in this window or in the summer Bolton could be on the verge of having a very decent squad of players, especially if signings like SWP and Ireland become the standard.

Wanderers have wobbled in recent weeks especially in the face of a number of injuries and the departure of Lee on International duty. I keep hoping for a mini shake up in the side as certain players continue to under perform.

Recently Zat Knight, Fabrice Muamba, Matt Taylor and Kevin Davies have all been far from their best and as the games go by they seem not to be getting better. Add to that Sam Ricketts inconsistent form at right back, Martin Petrov’s inability to really impose himself (apart from a few fleeting moments of brilliance) and a constantly changing central midfield pair as injured players rotate between themselves and it all adds up to the results Bolton have suffered through December and January.

If some of the speculated signings come off Bolton could be in a great position to finish the season strongly, if they don’t come off we may continue to struggle. For now though, the window of opportunity remains open and for that reason I am going to stay positive. Here’s to a few more quality signings! Cheers!

Possible squad:

Steinsson Cahill Wheater Robinson
SWP Holden Ireland Petrov
Elmander Rodrigo

on top of that we would also have a decent set of replacements in: Ricketts; M Davies; Muamba; Lee; Alonso; Knight; K Davies

To me, that would be a pretty strong squad to select from.

Still can’t see dropping Super Kev for a slight drop in form. He’s still one of the strongest target men around and his work ethic is second to none. Which brings me to my second point, that being Stephen Ireland. I have been something resembling a fan for a number of years but he does have a habit, like Petrov, of just not seeming to be in the mood. Maybe a change of scenery will improve that.
