Kirkland – Serious head injury after Elmander clash?

05Jan11

Around 60 minutes into tonight’s game the Wigan goal keeper came flying off his line to challenge Elmander on the edge of the box. Both players slid for the ball fairly but Kirkland ended up flat out out on the floor for 5 or 6 minutes.

Kirkland was immediately replaced after being stretchered off the field. Respectful applause rippled round the stadium as fans from both sides realised the potential seriousness of the incident.

I think I speak for most football fans when I wish Kirkland a speedy recovery and hope the injury is not as serious as it looked.

Wigan managed to get a draw out of the game when they scored to make it 1-1 ten minutes from time. Bolton were only denied a win by a string of wonder saves by Wigan’s substitute goalie.
