Gerrard breaks Wanderers’ hearts By Liam Chronnell (from Bolton News)

» Wanderers 2 Liverpool 3

TEN-MAN Wanderers were desperately unlucky not have taken at least a point against Liverpool in an absorbing contest at the Reebok. Brave Bolton were sunk by Steven Gerrard’s 83rd-minute – but the game’s turning point came when Sean Davis was sent off with Gary Megson’s side leading 2-1 through goals from Kevin Davies and Tamir Cohen. The Wanderers midfielder was shown a second yellow for a trip on Lucas Leiva on 54 minutes – and just two minutes later the Reds were level. Davies put the home side in front on 33 minutes when he pounced from close range from Matt Taylor’s corner, but Glen Johnson equalised before half time. Cohen smashed Wanderers back ahead two minutes after the restart before Davis saw red. Torres immediately took advantage of the extra man when he levelled again on 56 minutes. And Gerrard finally broke Bolton’s resolve when he slammed home a superb volley with just seven minutes remaining to leave Megson’s men without a point from their opening three games.
