Bolton Strikers Scored None in 29 out of last 40 league games…

It is a known fact that Bolton failed to score in 18 of their league games last season.  But did you know that looking at Bolton’s strikers reveals an even darker statistic.  From the last 40 league games, including 2 this season, Wanderers strikers have failed to hit the back of the net on 29 occasions.

Kevin Davies scored an uncharacteristically high tally of 12, his highest ever in a season, and is unlikely to match his record this time round.  Keeping this in mind makes frightening reading for any Bolton fan.  Just where are the goals going to come from?  Manager Gary Megson has spent the summer rebuilding his defence but failed to address the clubs main deficiency.  Bolton must do something, either bring in some new faces to add to their attacking options or bring in a new manager to change their ultra negative style around.  Bolton’s only other srikers include Vaz Te who is injured, Obadayi, on loan to Swindon, and Riga who is constantly out of favour.

Adding to the pain is the harsh fact that Bolton have only scored twice in their last 8 league outings, and have not won since they beat the now relegated Middlesbrough at the beginning of April.  Since Christmas last year Bolton have won only 4 games in the Premiership and haven’t won away since November. The Wanderers also got a grand total of zero points against any of the top 4 teams.

The problem at the moment is not that all of this is true.  It’s that Megson thinks it is ok.  At the start of the season he sets out to finish 17th in the League.  He faces every match hoping for a draw unless it’s against the big four, then he aims for damage limitation expecting to lose.  We play the most uninspiring football I have ever witnessed and we play it every week.  He doesn’t seem to pick the best players and he doesn’t have a plan B.  He takes positives from games where there are none and when reviewing a match seems to be describing a totally different match to the one everyone else saw.

Bolton Wanderers need to start finding goals.  And Gary Megson needs to change something for this to happen.  Preferably his entire approach to football.
